The court is roughly the same size as lawn tennis, but is enclosed with galleries along one wall, a sloping penthouse and a sagging net.

The scoring system is almost the same as conventional tennis except for phrases such as "40-15, more than a yard worse than the last gallery".

Famous for being the sport of the Tudor kings, Royal Tennis is currently enjoying a worldwide boom. The game combines the athletic demands of squash and lawn tennis with the mental rigours of chess.
