Professor Thomas Danne
Professor of Pediatrics, Chief Physician, Department of General Pediatrics,
Children's Hospital "Auf der Bult", Hannover Medical School, Germany

Prof. Dr. Thomas Danne is the Director of the Department of General Pediatrics and Endocrinology/Diabetology at the Kinderkrankenhaus auf der Bult, Hannover Medical School, Germany, which is the largest pediatric diabetes center in Germany. Presently he is appointed as President of the International Society for Pediatric and Adolescent Diabetes (ISPAD), Chairman of the German IDF member organization “diabetesDE” and President of the scientific German Diabetes Association (DDG). He is a former Research Fellow of the Joslin Diabetes Center of Harvard Medical School in Boston. His research interests include basic and clinical research in pediatric diabetology with special emphasis on new insulins, glucose sensors and insulin pumps. Dr. Danne has published over 90 peer reviewed papers is on the Editorial board of several journals and has contributed to several books.

Dr Reiko Horikawa M. D., Ph. D.

Dr Reiko Horikawa has been the Chief in the Division of Endocrinology and Metabolism National Center for Child Health and Development since 2004. Prior to this she was the Chief for the Division of Adolescent Medicine National Center for Child Health and Development. She also did her Postdoctoral Fellow at the Division of Endocrinology and Metabolism, Department of Medicine, University of Virginia Health Sciences Center and was a Research Associate at the Endocrine Research Laboratory, National Children's Medical Research Center. Dr Reiko Horikawa has won the Novo Nordisk Growth Award in 1997, 2000 and 2004.

Hertha Richter-Appelt

Prof. Dr. Hertha Richter-Appelt, Psychoanalyst (IPA). Studies in Psychology und Statistics at the University of Vienna (Austria). Training in Behavior Therapy at the Middlessex Hospital, London. Research fellow at the Universities Bern, Konstanz and Hamburg. 1989 Habilitation in Clinical Psychology (Psychoendokrinologic Gynecology). Since 1997 Professor for Sex Research at the Medical Faculty of the Hamburg University. Numerous publications in Psychological Diagnostic, Psychotherapy, Sex Research, Gender Identity and Sexual Traumatization. Co-Editor of the German Journal for Sex Research. Principal investigator of a research project on medical experiences and quality of life of individuals with different forms of intersexuality (DSD). Co-initiator of the multicenter study with Belgium, Netherlands and Norway on diagnostic criteria for transsuals.

1998-2003 President Since 2007 Vicepresident of the German society for Sex reseach.

The conference dinner will be held in the historic and iconic Mortlock Chamber located in the State Library, next to the Art Gallery on North Terrace and within walking distance from the conference venue. This year the entertainment will include salsa lessons and dancing from the South American-Adelaide connection.
